Core Minutes 10/13/2015
ScienceTools: (Jim) No development news, but some issues are under discussion:
FSSC: (Joe) Changes to tip are in progress. He hopes to commit by the end of the week.
Macs: (Richard) Jeremy said we might get help from FSSC (most likely from Joe) to support Mac as a development platform. Ideally we would emulate FSSC's approach and support one old version, current and bleeding-edge.
Batch update (Tom) Changes to the batch system went in this week which may require changes to users' scripts. They should ideally specify wall clock time. If you need to know more, see Tom's post to helpsoft.
Hardware: (Tom) The migration from old Sun-Thor file servers to newer Dell GPFS servers continues. Next up is wain032 and /u27, the Fermi dataServer partition from wain026. Because of the extreme number of files in some of these partitions, the time for the final rsync is >24 hours. Switch-overs will be announced in advance to solicit feedback from users prior to scheduling. After wain032, only wain026 remains to be migrated.
C&A (Leon) didn't attend this week's meeting but looked through slides. There has been more progress on using Cal-only events, but it's not yet clear whether this can be made to work.
Externals: (Heather) has made a build of GNU Scientific Library (GSL) as requested. That leaves ROOT, which requires validation.
Announcements Leon is a grandpa!!!
