Core Minutes 11/17/2015
IFC: (Richard) The usual meeting occurred on Sunday before the Symposium. The budget was approved: funds for tape, disks, and 50k for compute cores. The subject of longer-term support for Fermi (beyond 2017-2018) was broached.
ScienceTools: (Jim) No development news. He sent information concerning healpix to Joe.
FSSC: (Joe) Tip changes are complete, now in test. The information from Jim concerning the new healpix external is just what was needed to understand how to build against it. Work is in progress.
Hardware: (Tom) There will be a routine outage of all Fermi storage servers this morning for Oracle and OS patching. [as of 12:30pm, the outage is complete].
Redhat 5 and 7: (Heather) We cannot just quietly drop support for rhel5 after all. Saclay is currently at rhel5 and would like to move straight to rhel7. She has been engaged in efforts to get our rhel6 ST build to run on the SLAC public rhel7 machines. The Likelihood test program runs. She asked Jim what else should be tested. Among this list was the tip test program, which fails with a double-free error. She would like to know where to put our efforts: in getting the rhel6 ST build to run on rhel7, or in creating a native rhel7 build. (Richard) At some point we will want to support rhel7 natively for ST. (Jim) would therefore prefer to go straight for the native build. Are there any known obstacles among the externals? (Heather) thinks not; it's just work. It will at some point take some time from Joanne to get the RM builds going, but we could live without that initially. (Joanne) won't have any time for it between now and the start of her vacation, but could look into it in January. Tom Stephens left good instructions; it shouldn't be that difficult.
