Core Minutes 8/19/2014
FSSC: (Joe) is debugging the orbit simulator.
Hardware: (Tom, Richard) Two weeks ago the new Oracle server had 3 disk problems. Many items were replaced and the primary and back-up servers were swapped. More recently, 3 more drives have failed. Remedies range from just reseating to more drastic measures. Meanwhile, we have stayed online through all the problems.
Pass8: (Leon) Efforts in C&A have been directed towards getting a better handle on energy dispersion at low energies. Results presented by Phillipe (lots of plots, using work by Jim, Thibout and Johann) demonstrate it's working, but "only" down to 30 MeV. The hope is to push that number down to 10 MeV. Currently some components in the model have been corrected for dispersion, others not, which is quite awkward.
On another front, Regina Caputo is trying to make better use of CAL-only events. She has beaten down proton backgrounds pretty well; electrons are next.
glastlnx07 (Heather) It needs to be retired, which means we need to get WIRED working elsewhere. She made a fix to jo last week. Dmitri reported that this allowed him to get further. Now he's running into a problem when retrieving an event, but this problem is not specific to the newer GR version.
Workbook (Heather, Tom) Tom has made updates to the section on using SLAC Batch. Rather than incorporating them into the Workbook directly (a mode of operation which is foreign to most potential Workbook updaters), Heather would like to put them in a structured area of Confluence and modify pages in the Workbook proper to point into this area. (Richard) ETA? How about next week, in time for the Collaboration Meeting the following week? (Heather) ok.
Redhat 6 validation (Heather) has made a suitable rhel6 build. Need to get cracking on the comparison: first us, then C&A people. Note this is for Pass8 only.
Gui Installer (Joanne) had some discussion with Tony J., who was surprised to hear us declare that the problem (unpacking externals) was on Mac OSes only. For some time he hasn't been able to get it to work anywhere. That had not been Joanne's experience. To confirm, she tried it on a rhel6 laptop. No problems seen. Then she was emboldened to try it on an iMac running Mountain Lion. No problems there, either. This was reported to Tony, who thought perhaps a third-party library he's using could be at fault.
