Core Minutes 1/13/2015
ScienceTools: (Jim) The new ST release 09-35-01 is intended to be the last not incorporating Pass 8 support. Several package tags with such support have already been made, entailing several user interface changes. Descriptions of these changes and other information of interest to users may be found in the Confluence page Changes to support Pass 8. Jeremy and Matthew will be here next week to exercise a Pass 8 alpha release. Additional testers would be welcome. Changes should be largely backwards-compatible.
A new tag for astro has updated IGRF code good through 2020.
See Science Tools Development Notes for details.
FSSC: (Elizabeth) 3FGL has been released; Pass 8 work is in progress. Yosemite support is well on its way, close to done.
Pass 8: (Tom) has had discussions with Philippe and Matthew. The AGN group would like a backfill for PG1553 paper (almost two complete periods of activity). Tentatively this will be done in early February. There will be a new round of FITS data product generation — with latest event selection and enabling both extended and normal FT1/LS1 output. This will be P302 and Matthew hopes to have all ducks lined up by the end of this week, so this project may start next week. I think I need to try using the new ScienceTools for P302 (uses gtselect, gtmktime) to ensure event selection for FT1/LS1 is performed properly Sounds like time early for Pass8 release is now mid-March.
C & A: (Leon) missed the last meeting but heard about work Matt has been doing on the not-so-isotropic background issue. He has been playing with a cut, intended to catch cosmic rays, which gets rid of the anisotropy, but also removes 1/3 to 1/2 of the improved performance of P8 with respect to P7. This bears watching.
glastlnx07 (Heather) No recent progress. She needs to reacquaint herself with the situation and hopefully gain a better understanding of just where the failure (running the WIRED server on one of the Linux VMs) is occurring.
rhel6 validation (Heather) No recent news [but soon after the meaning this morning Johan asked for some systest comparisons].
Pass 8 externals upgrades (Heather) Several are on the agenda, mostly requested by FSSC as they work on Yosemite support.
Mavericks (Joanne) lost ground slightly in her last foray into mac-land. She was able to start up the Mavericks VM via command line from a host console session once, but not thereafter. The next time she gets to it she'll see if it's still possible to start the VM using the gui tools.
Announcements Toby will be in town next week.
