Quantum computers require sophisticated control and readout electronics to configure the initial state of the quantum bits (qubits) inside the computer, apply operations on the qubits, and read out the result of the computation. The Quantum Instrumentation Control Kit (QICK) is a versatile open-source system that is capable of complex quantum control at low cost. QICK leverages the recent development of RF system-on-chip (RFSoC) devices that consist of a single chip with a conventional CPU, powerful FPGA digital logic, and high-speed microwave generators and digitizers. Installing the free QICK software on an off-the-shelf RFSoC kit instantly creates a complete system that brings together all the components of an expensive quantum control system - but with better integration between the components due to the single-chip RFSoC architecture, and more flexibility due to the open-source QICK software and firmware. QICK has seen rapid adoption among the research community because of its superior performance, ease of use, and ability to address the unique needs of groups that are pushing the state of the art in qubit control. We are presenting the rapid progress since our initial presentation on QICK at last year's March Meeting.
