Core Minutes 7/16/2013
ScienceTools: (Jim) One issue concerning gtbin has been addressed with tag evtbin-02-06-04. See JIRA STGEN-120 for details.
FSSC: (Tom S.) No news to speak of. There has been some minor work on the data server to make it more robust.
Pass7 Reprocessing: (Tom G.) No activity yet. There are rumors of a meeting on Friday where date of release may be chosen.
Pass8 Reprocessing: (Tom G.) After about 2 weeks it's about 8.5% complete. At this rate — and assuming not too much competition; see below — we'd be done in about 6 months, somewhat faster than expected.
Failure rate is non-zero, but very small: about 20 jobs out of 250,000. Tracy is working on a fix (ACD propagation issue described last week). When a new GR is ready Tom will rerun these jobs.
We're using the new bullet machines (rhel6) as well as older rhel5 machines. Max number of nodes has been cranked up to 3200 and beyond with no signs of stress, significantly better than we've done in the past. There has been some competition within Fermi for batch resources: Johan has submitted massive earth limb runs and plans to also generate GRB and solar flare datasets. Reprocessing got fewer nodes when the earth limb runs were at their height.
Follow progress from the Pipeline pages.
Pass8 Validation: (Leon) People are likely to get to it as soon as there is enough data to make it worthwhile, in anticipation of Collaboration Meeting. (Richard) There will be more takers if FITS files were available. (Tom G.) has not yet heard of any request for FITS files.
Space: (Richard) The announced deletion of Pass7 recon files, now in progress, will leave us with enough disk for this year.
Hardware: (Richard) Black boxes are now dead since it would have take an infusion of $$ to keep them going. They were 6-7 years old. Purchase of more bullet-type machines is in the works.
GR tags (Heather) In addition to new Pass8 tag alluded to above, a new L1 tag will be coming soon. It will feature upgrades to ROOT and to some packages like astro which are shared with ST.
New macs (Heather) Is this a go? (Richard) Yes, in progress. We have the money.
Release Manager/Jenkins (Heather) It appears mac problems have been fixed. What about Windows? (Tom S.) Yes, RM is now working fine on macs since Tony's fix. He (Tony) has also made some progress in understanding the Windows failures: the Z drive is not getting mounted so the jobs can't access credentials.
