Core Minutes 6/10/2014
Reprocessing: (Tom G.) P203 reprocessing is complete. This is the seventh dataset made public through FSSC.
Pass8 backfill (we had left off last June) is well on its way, currently creating merit files. With luck it should be complete by the end of the week. There have been a significant number of failed jobs which had to be rolled back, primarily xroot disk failures on old servers.
Hardware and such: (Richard) Computer Center has been asked to purchase two more fileservers from Dell. There is no emergency; we still have space. We're just being cautious. (Tom G.) we currently have 225 TB of free xroot space and are consuming about 1 TB a day for new data.
(Richard) Tuning of bullet cluster is ongoing. It's used for both MPI and serial jobs. MPI has tended to get the better deal, especially as compared to little unaffiliated serial guys. (We haven't been doing too badly.)
IFC meeting took place and was pretty much a non-event. Budget was submitted; no comments in response.
Pass8: (Leon) There is plenty of activity, but nothing especially appropriate for this meeting.
Mountain Lion and Installer (Joanne) Heather had asked Eric Charles to try downloading and installing an ST distribution on his mac with the command-line installer. [ (Richard) gui installer is known to fail for all mac builds; Tony is aware]. After working through some lesser issues, he was able to download the ST tarball, but it didn't unpack properly, and all the externals were 0 bytes. The problem with the externals can be traced to a missing directory (the one which should contain the externals tarballs) on u35. There was a file of the appropriate name, but it was a regular file, not a directory. This has now been addressed. The next ST build should be able to regenerate the externals tarballs and store them properly. As for the unpacking problem — Heather says this occasionally happens for no discernible reason. We'll see if the next build does better.
