Core Minutes 6/7/2011Travels: (Heather) Richard is at a Fermilab site review, due to return late Thursday. Tracy is in San Diego through this week and weekend.
ScienceTools: (Jim) No news. Discussed GRBAnalysis with Joanne (see below).
Pass8: (Leon) in spite of Bill's announcement that Pass8 is "done", it's still somewhat in flux. Trying to get out a base release today or within a couple days at most which can be used to prepare for face-to-face in a month. (Heather) plans to make a release today with everything that is ready to go; will make another release soon if necessary to pick up anything left behind.
More GR (Heather) has been in touch with Francesco concerning changes to allow dropping G4HadronSim [our private version of some code which ideally should be coming from G4]. However the new scheme involves using some Fortran code. Since not all platforms are equipped to compile Fortran she's tried using f2c..ok so far.
Disk clean-up (Heather) We were running out of space on all of the following:
When we start using SCons to build GlastRelease for a variety of OS's we'll need still more space. (Tom G.) is working on this and expects the new space will be available within a couple weeks.
CMT news (Heather) Windows builds have been getting stuck; especially, though not exlusively, LATEST builds. CMT RM web pages are not always self-consistent; sometimes you have to drill down to the bottom to be sure what's going on.
SCons RM (Tom S.) There has been no screaming so far; if this holds he'll turn off SCons VS 2003 ST builds at the end of the week.
The "finalize" step sometimes hangs for no obvious reason; he'll look into it.
Go Virtual (Heather) In response to the announcement of imminent shutdown of VS 2003 builds she got a request for cygwin builds. Seems problematical. (Joanne) cygwin and VS in the same machine have to be handled with care. (Toby) Agrees, but suggests looking into VirtualBox as a way to make it possible for anyone to start up a build on any supported platform. (Tom S.) is familiar with this technique, if not this particular tool (FSSC uses VMWARE create virtual machines for many of its builds) and would be interested in pursuing. (Jim) Tune and Jim have a SULI summer student who will be working on running ST on a virtual machine for eventual deployment to a cloud service such as Amazon EC2.
GRBAnalysis (Joanne) GRBAnalysis-scons now exists in cvs but is not yet complete. It contains subpackages BackgroundEstimator, LLE, and BayesianBlocks as well as links to all the ScienceTools packages required to build its libraries. Remaining subpackages, consists largely or exclusively of python code, will be straightforward to incorporate once the owners' intents are clarified. See this Confluence page for plans and status.
obf for SCons (Joanne) picked the wrong time to start concocting an obf external for SCons from the new flight software. To be continued when Tracy returns.
