Core Minutes 10/22/2013
ScienceTools: (Jim) No news since last week.
(Heather) Who is in charge of EarthPhenom? (Jim) Keith would be first choice but he is no longer full-time on Fermi. (Richard, providing context) Recent batch disk problems were related to the large percentage of jobs segfaulting and dumping core. Pass8 was derailed for a while, but thankfully Warren was minding the store (subbing for Tom G., who is unreachable in Colorado), and, in conjunction with SCCS, was able to get things back on track. (Heather) is loathe to incorporate the package into GR with its current behavior. (Jim) would also prefer to have nothing to do with it if it's not going to be properly maintained. (Richard) Is there a science group which should take responsibility for it? (Jim) The Solar group is the logical one.
FSSC: (Joe, via email since SeeVogh was recalcitrant)
I don't really have much to add update-wise other than to state that I am working on the latest ST tag that Jim made and incorporating Tom's python plotting changes.
Pass7 comparison: (Tracy) There are still a few rough spots, but basically LP60 is the candidate. The switch cannot take place for another couple weeks [because of FSSC constraints]; perhaps a little more progress will be made meanwhile. But, essentially, we can declare victory and return to working on Pass8.
(Heather) M.E. has asked for a job options change which will require an LP61 build. The change is to use the flight01 geometry rather than flight (but not to advance the xmlGeoDbs tag, which would pick up the recent changes to ACD materials). [The difference between flight and flight01 is presumably summed up in the comment for tag xmlGeoDbs-01-48-00: "update materials and dimensions for Pass 8".]
GR tags (Heather) 20-09-05 is coming soon. There is a HEAD build incorporating most of the upgrades anticipated for the new tag, in particular the new ACD geometry and job options for new calibrations. Please try it out. There is one last change to job options which still needs to go in; see JIRA LPATE-167 for more information.
Mountain Lion macbook (Tom S.) is about to give up trying to build QT on this box. There seems to be no version which will build there successfully. Instead he'll copy over the Snow Leopard build and link against that. It's only needed for RM programs. The next task is to build externals on the new machine. He is hopeful about that since FSSC has been able to do it.
NOTE: Tom will be on vacation and probably inaccessible starting this Thursday and through the following week.
