Core Minutes 8/3/2010

• ScienceTools: (Jim) No news to speak of.

• FSSC: (Eric) Nothing to report. Testing and debugging schedule is delayed a bit, pending decision (not his to make) on IRFs.

  John is leaving in 3 weeks [! ed.]. He says:

  I've just spent the past week or so documenting things. Which is odd since I could have sworn I've written documention as I've gone along.

• Documentation: (Chuck)

  • Photos from the recent Core meeting are up.

• GR Pass8: (Tracy)

  • Carmelo is incorporating the minimal spanning tree approach into CalRecon
  • Bill has fully implemented simulation of edge effects in crystals; he's working now on taking account of them in recon and is most of the way there. See links to his work on the Pass 8 agenda page.
  • Tracy is working on tree-based stuff
  • G4 work is not as far along as had been hoped; need to push on it
  • Next face-to-face meeting is coming up in 4 weeks

  (Leon) has still more activity to report [and wrote it down to enhance my dubious notes- thanks, Leon!]:

  • Updated geometry and alignment constants have been installed: geometry in a new directory of xmlGeoDbs/xml/flight01 to go to the head of GR, and alignment as a new flavor, flight01. Old versions are still the default.
  • Overlay generation redone:
    • Removed cut on zenith angle. It seems more representative to leave in the high-angle excursions.
    • Broke up the 0.90-0.92 livetime bin into two files covering the same range, rather than breaking it up into 2 ranges.
  • WIRED Tony J. has made some mods to a private version which allow it to be started from Gleam just like Fred. He needs to exercise it a bit more to be sure he hasn't broken anything.
  • Sign error correction for PtSCzenith (rocking angle). This will go into Pass8. Probably no one uses it anyway; this information is (correctly) in FT2.

• 7.3 Reprocessing: (Tom G.) Two tasks are involved:

  • create merit files. This is up and running; 6 weeks of data are processed so far.
  • create fits files. Nearly ready to go.

• Astro-server outage: (Richard) Pass 7 generates about 10 times more data than Pass 6; we need more disk space! The astro-server will be down all day tomorrow to add some and to update OS from rhel4 to rhel5, which does a better job of handling the i/o we need.

  Today or tomorrow there will be a review of our disk storage model (shifting old data to tape as we need the space).

• Core talk:

  • SCons meeting summary (Heather) We had a productive meeting yesterday. See her extensive notes. One issue discussed there which has not yet made it into the notes was the need for improved RMII web pages. Jim agreed to provide a mock-up of what he would like to see in the front page and has done so.

  • Automated builds with VS 2008 (Tom S.) are working! See, for example, RM2 output. Tom would like to know if he should turn on email notifications of failures. Prevailing, but not unanimous, opinion was "yes".

  • New Gaudi (Heather) It's all working except for problems generating rootmap files (the new method used to pick out the right set of symbols to export from Windows dll's). For now Heather is using CMT to build with the new Gaudi. The rootmap files may be easier to generate with SCons.

    Plans are to commit this code to CVS in a branch off of GR v18. Heather is willing to take on merging it into the HEAD when the time comes.
