Core Minutes 4/30/2013ScienceTools: (Jim) There have been no new ST tags. He is in the process of dealing with a problem in parameter handling. There is a simple work-around.
FSSC: (Alex) The new release has been smooth: no problems (except self-induced) from users so far. The new release supports new platforms OSX Mountain Lion and Fedora 64-bit.
Now that the release is out, we have time to look into the gcc47 problems. (Jim) is going to get a new laptop with gcc47 on it so will have a convenient way to look into. Longer term, it would be good to be able to use VMs for platforms which are not readily available.
Pass 8 (Tracy) is working on minor bug fixes and what-not in TkrRecon; should finish up soon.
He's added the CalEnergyMap to ROOT output (needed for the merit ntuple) and is working on pruning tree-based tracking output. Meanwhile Stephan Zimmer has been looking into various compression strategies, but comparisons show we can only trim about 10% that way, which is not enough.
There has been a long-standing goal to decrease merit output. Alex has defined a "prime" tuple (subset of full merit tuple) along with a way to switch between it and the full tuple. We should probably use the prime tuple as the default.
(Heather) is supplying Stephan with an updated version of RootIo that will allow him to test LZMA compression on the recon files. Stephan had also asked about zipping merit files - which is possible, but would require adding compression support to ntupleWriterSvc (whcih she can and will do).
We will probably make a GR 20-08-13 tag with these recent changes, then GR 20-09-00 for the official release to be used for reprocessing. Tom G. has been handed job options.
(Leon) is winding up work on misalignment. The impression on muons is that it hasn't really changed anything; he's about to look at electrons. Including misalignment in MC clearly does make a difference so we should do that.
SCons users (Heather) No news from Bill; we presume he's happy. (Tracy) believes he is able to get his work done. The transition for him has been quite smooth. Kudos to the support team.
(Joanne) Art is a different story. It is an uphill battle, not over yet.
GR rhel6 validation (Heather) It's about time to dive into this seriously, maybe with the upcoming GR 20-08-13.
RM (Tom S.) is in the process of moving RM functions off glastlnx20 to a VM running on one of the new fermilnx machines. He has so far moved the daemon which looks for conditions indicating a new LATEST is in order. It appears to have gone smoothly but hasn't been fully exercised yet. The next step will be to move the lsf demon over there. Since glastlnx20 is a rhel6 machine, just like the new VMs, the move should go smoothly.
