Core Minutes 4/26/2011CHEP: (Richard) is on the Advisory Committee and will do his best to keep it from being dull, predictable and LHC-centric.
ScienceTools: (Jim) Masa has updated web pages for pulsar tools. The code has been ready since February but had to wait for an upgraded version of tip.
(Jim) implemented a suggestion from Eric Charles to speed up dataSubselectr::Gti. It's currently in LATEST.
See Science Tools Development Notes for details.
(Richard) When will the new data-like externals (diffuseModels, catalogProducts) show up? The Installer didn't install them along with the latest tag. (Heather) They will be in the next tag; they're in HEAD now.
FSSC: (Eric W.) ported v9r23p1 last week; no issues. Testing has begun. It typically takes about 6 weeks.
Documentation: (Chuck) sends the following:
In addition to a number of routine changes and updates to the workbook, the major effort last week was the newsletter, which hit the streets Thursday evening. I'm currently working on updating a number of graphics, and will then resume work on the Science Tools tutorials.
P7 updates: (Tom G.) P7 reprocessing is complete through the 19th of April (through the ToO for Crab).
Pass8: (Richard) suspects
everyone is beavering away at posters and the like.
(Leon) everyone is beavering away at
posters and the like.
Other GR: (Heather) No new tags this week.
Still waiting for Francesco to commit changes needed for new G4 and CLHEP
MySQL upgrade Thanks to some expediting by Tom G, Jim Panetta took care of the one urgent need (avoiding a possible secturity hole) by upgrading glastlnx06 to a newer 4.1 version. However in the not-terribly-long term everything needs to go to 5.x. (Joanne) set up a MySQL 5.0 testbed on her laptop and found one little glitch affecting calib dbs. A small code change to rdbModel, tagged as rdbModel-02-14-05, will take care of it, maintaining compatibility with both MySQL 4 and MySQL 5 instances of the database. MOOT is ok with or without new rdbModel.
Kim and Arash (principally; other concerned people stick their 2 cents in on occasion) are planning the move of the databases currently hosted by glastlnx01, running MySQL 4, to a central server running MySQL 5. (Heather) We need to find a window for the move of CMT RM tables which won't be too disruptive. (Joanne) All active GR branches — HEAD, Pass7, L1 — need to pick up the new tag of rdbModel. GR code expects to find the calibration database on glastDB and probably the same is true of the CMT RM, so that alias, which currently translates to glastlnx01, should be reassigned once the new databases are up and running.
Python maintenance (Heather) There has been a request to add pywcsgrid2 to our Python distribution and also a suggestion that we use easy_install or similar product to help manage our Python distributions generally. She intends to give it a try; what she has learned about it so far looks good. (Toby) uses easy_install and is very pleased with it. Among other things it means he's not so dependent on the exact contents of the Python we distribute; it's easy for him to add whatever else he needs. It's smart enough to look on the internet for compatible versions of requested packages. (Jim) Would like to make sure, in this case as in all others, that there is a good reason for adding a new package.
stag (Joanne) stag 0.2.3, announced last week, has a bug on some OSes at least some of the time. I don't understand it, but managed to avoid it in the new version 0.2.4. There is a new, similarly-patched release of GoGui, 1.0.1. If you issue the commands stag and GoGui on SLAC Linux you will get these new versions.
SCons RM (Tom) Things are relatively quiet. There is a small mystery concerning orbitSim. On snowleopard it builds properly for LATEST, but not for HEAD or tagged releases, even though the tag of the orbitSim package is the same in all three cases. [Looking into it while writing this up.. the problem appears to be that the src subdirectory of orbitSim didn't get the HEAD tag, in fact may never have had a HEAD tag. It does now. This should fix future HEAD and ST tag builds. ed]
SCons/Windows game plan (Heather) has got everything working for VS 2003 on the new-Gaudi branch (off of GR v18r7p1). Next steps will be:
