Core Minutes 3/24/2015
ScienceTools: (Jim) No news beyond his presentation at the Collaboration Meeting.
See Science Tools Development Notes for current activity.
FSSC: (Joe) Preparing for release. There is no target date yet.
Reprocessing: (Tom) No news this week.
Hardware: (Tom) Coming soon: a new user disk system. Four former xroot machines are being re-purposed to be a super-server to tend to Fermi needs for the long term future. It will be a couple weeks before the machines are configured and data moved over. There is a lot of data to move; need to make sure not to stress the current system in the process.
(Richard) We've ordered two fermilnx boxes to replace glast-win01, glast-win02, the front ends to glast-ground. They are going in the high-availability racks. Another req is being prepared now to replace web server web007.
New externals (Heather) Eric has requested two new externals (wcslib, healpix) be made available so that ST can build against them, rather than the current mode of using them (copying the code into our own packages). He describes how to go about this in a Confluence page. He has already created builds for our supported Linux platforms. We still need a build for Mountain Lion. This should address STGEN-152.
The end, if not near, is not too far off (Richard) It's possible, but not likely, that we'll be able to port GR to rhel7. The major stumbling blocks would be CLHEP and G4. We don't have the resources to upgrade and validate, so we'd have to get the hoary versions we're using now to build with the new compiler. But even that would just put off the inevitable: we will have to move L1 to VMs at some point. rhel7 is expected to take over the batch farm by 2017.
