Core Minutes 2/4/2014
ScienceTools: (Jim) There are two items since Jan. 21:
See Science Tools Development Notes for details.
FSSC: Joe couldn't attend the meeting but sent the following:
I don't have much to add by way of updates. I have been working on a lot of FSSC specific issues that affect our distribution.
Pass8: (Leon) We have tried everything we can think of to reconcile data and MC for low energy ACD tiles but it's not happening. It seems the best course is to establish an energy threshold below which no hit is generated. But then the same thing should be done for real data, which implies another round of reprocessing.
Looking on the bright side, such a threshold should lessen overlay size (recall it grew dramatically with the recent decision to include all tiles with any energy at all).
Reprocessing: (Tom G.) Another round of reprocessing would be a substantial undertaking. Would this be starting with recon? (Leon) We may have to redo ACD recon.
Hardware: (Richard) We're hoping to bring up our new Oracle servers in March (it has been difficult to get attention of the db group recently; they've been tied up with other things).
(Tom G.) There will be an outage next week, Feb. 11, starting at 9 and probably lasting until early afternoon, for Oracle and os patching, including our nfs servers. The remaining glastlnx machines will also be decommissioned at this time. Given all these activities happening concurrently, return to normalcy may be rocky. In particular, stale nfs file handles can be troublesome. An email announcement will remind people to close files before the outage.
Announcements (Richard)
